Prince Andrew sues to dismiss sex assault lawsuit in Connecticut

Prince Andrew’s attorneys said on Friday they have asked a Connecticut judge to dismiss a sex assault lawsuit against him alleging he sexually assaulted a teenage girl at a party in London more than 20 years ago.

The lawsuit filed in August claims Andrew forced a 15-year-old girl into sex in 1997, and left her injured. It says she came forward now because she believes other girls have been assaulted by him.

But Andrew’s lawyers argue in a motion that the “betrayal” of the settlement agreement prevents the case from moving forward, and said it is on many legal grounds.

A lawyer for Andrew did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Andrew had settled two previous cases against him by agreeing to the release of documents. The settlement agreement in the latest case was signed 10 months ago.

The victim’s lawyer, Kenneth R Elser, said in a statement he “totally respects” the efforts of the Prince’s attorneys to dismiss the case, and said the victim believed she could tell her story without fear of facing criminal or civil repercussions.
