Dilnozpakha Karnisova, ex-officer who hired hit man to kill and then have his wife raped, is sentenced to 12-1/2 years in prison

A former policewoman who ordered the murder of her husband and then later hired a hit man to have her own husband raped in a bizarre revenge plot has been sentenced to a 10-1/2-year prison term in Russia.

Karnisova and co-defendant Geidze Afranekhadova were found guilty of murder, the second-degree rape of a daughter of the man she tried to murder and commission of a criminal gang. Karnisova’s husband, Ildar Geidzen, a novelist, is serving a 13-year term for arranging the murder of his wife in September 2012.

Karnisova confessed to having hired private detective Andrey Mendelyan, who shot her husband dead at their home on the pretext of a doctor’s check-up. She told investigators that she had wanted her husband killed because she blamed him for accepting a marriage proposal from a widow who had killed her husband.

Angry, bewildered Karnisova asked Mendelyan to kill her husband and then himself, but he left her alone.

She also sent a note to her mother, telling her she was searching for her husband. In it, she claimed her husband raped her and ordered that she be killed and the corpse put in her stove to cook.

“He said my daughter that ‘if I hadn’t gone to those things, I would have been raped’,” Karnisova recalled in her 2013 interview with the newspaper Izvestia. “So I had no choice. I lost it. I did everything I could to kill him. I went through a lot of thinking … first, about myself. Then, about the decision I had to make … my own murder. Then, the day I had to kill him.”

Her son-in-law, who was in the middle of writing a book about his parents, was outraged by the bizarre murder attempt on his mother and immediately went to the police. Karnisova confessed to her mother the plot, telling her that she would “have to die”. She also tried to kill herself after the crime.

“She was consumed by her fears about what she did,” the prosecutor told the court.

Afranekhadova, who confessed to hiring Mendelyan after she was persuaded to do so, was sentenced to a 10-year prison term.

Before the trial started, Karnisova cut a deal with the prosecution and offered her only one cent. Under that agreement, prosecutors will drop charges against her in connection with the plot to have her husband raped.
